What's on the Table?
Bessie Nestoras -- Gifts and Dec, 6/1/2009 12:00:00 AM
Despite the current circumstances, The New York Tabletop Market held at 41 Madison/The Merchandise Mart and 7 West New York this past April was a steady show. While traffic did seem a little off this time around, vendors were pleased with the overall market saying they had plenty of appointments and made new contacts.
Traditionally the Tabletop Market has been the show for vendors to launch new dinnerware collections. This market many manufacturers shifted their focus from dinnerware to tabletop gifts. However, there were new dinnerware patterns, but far fewer compared to past markets. What buyers could find was a wide selection of gifts such as frames, little trays, canapé plates and other items in ready-to-go gift boxes. Michael Wainwright introduced a collection of frames and coasters and created packaging in which to present them. Rosenthal took its Versace patterns and placed them on 4¾″ plates that are perfect for gift-giving. Nambé added to its collection of frames and Riedel offered several new gift packages in its new TriO collection.
Below is a sampling of what was seen in New York.
